As a result of Governor Pataki's leadership, more than 310,000 new private sector jobs have been created in the Empire State since he first took office. In 1997, 809 businesses came to or expanded in New York, nearly an 11-fold increase from the 75 expansions or relocations in 1994. Governor Pataki has attracted new jobs and investment into New York by making fundamental changes to the state's business climate. Costly, ineffective regulations have been abolished, state bureaucracy has been reduced by more than 22,000 positions, and workers compensation costs have been reduced by nearly one-third.
